New Cable Laying Vessel contract

Salt Ship Design is proud to announce its selection as the ship designer for the world’s largest and most advanced inter-array Cable Laying Vessel (CLV), commissioned by Penta-Ocean Construction Co., Ltd. (POC). The vessel will support the rapid expansion of offshore wind construction in Japan and is being constructed by PaxOcean Group (Singapore).

The self-propelled CLV will feature state-of-the-art capabilities to facilitate cable laying and burial for bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind farms, as well as submarine direct current transmission cables. Designed for operations in severe offshore conditions, the vessel includes:

  • Two 5,000t cable carousels (10,000t total capacity) for large wind farms.

  • Advanced trenching and cable burial systems utilizing the latest ROV and trencher technology from SMD (UK).

  • High-precision ClassNK DPS2 dynamic positioning system with seven thrusters (16,000 kW output).

  • Future-ready environmental features, including a battery storage system and methanol-ready specifications to promote carbon neutrality.

The vessel is scheduled for completion in February 2028 and will mark a major step forward in POC’s efforts to expand offshore wind power across Japan’s general sea areas and EEZ.
